Children’s Church

Following the Children’s Sermon on Sunday, February 14th, Sunday School students in the 3-6 grades will meet in Room 209 of the Education Building for Children’s Church.  This will be held on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Sundays of each month.  For the 1st and 5th Sundays of the month, the children will remain in church for the entire service.

Lenten Fair

On Sunday, March 14th, there will be a Lenten Fair held downstairs in the auditorium of the Education Building from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.  There will be NO Sunday School that day.  The children will be learning the meaning of Lent, Palm Sunday, Holy Week, and Easter through the use of symbols, crafts and food.  If you have any smocks for the children to wear as they work on the crafts, please see or call Janie Allen at 410-686-1638.

Cribbery Program

The Christian Education Committee is interested in reinstituting the cribbery program at Kenwood.  The aim of the program is to allow parents of infants and toddlers up to three years of age the opportunity to join in worship while the youngest members of the congregation are cared for in the Educational Building’s well-equipped cribbery.  The program would run during the worship service from 10:30-11:30 a.m. and would not be active during the Sunday School class time.

In order to reinstitute this program, we require a minimum of 10 dedicated adult volunteers, who would be willing to serve at least one Sunday each month to staff the cribbery during worship.  Parents are invited to visit the cribbery on the second floor of the Education Buildling to determine if this would be an appropriate choice for their child/children.

Anyone interested in volunteering and/or utilizing this service should contact Irene Hendry at 410-488-8802 or sign up on the sheet on the Narthex table prior to the next Christian Ed meeting on February 28.  A decision will be made at that meeting to move forward dependent on the interest demonstrated by the congregation.

I asked God to take away my habit.  God said, no.

It is not for me to take away, but for you to give up.

I asked God to make my handicapped child whole.  God said, no.

His spirit is whole, his body is only temporary.

I asked God to grant me patience.  God said, no.

Patience is a byproduct of tribulations; it isn’t granted, it is learned.

I asked God to give me happiness.  God said, no.

I give you blessings; happiness is up to you.

I asked God to spare me pain.  God said, no.

Suffering draws you apart from worldly cares and brings you closer to me.

I asked God to make my spirit grow.  God said, no.

You must grow on your own, but I will prune you to make you fruitful.

I asked God for all things that I might enjoy life.  God said, no.

I will give you life, so that you may enjoy all things.

I asked God to help me LOVE others, as much as He loves me.

God said…Ahhh!

Maundy Thursday

On Thursday, April 1st, at 7:30 p.m., we remember and celebrate the final supper Jesus shared with His disciples in the context of Passover.  This event institutes the mystery of the Lord’s Supper.  Everyone is invited to attend the service of worship which will include the celebration of Holy Communion.  It is important that you make this part of your preparation for Easter.

Easter Sunday

Come join us on Sunday, April 4th, as we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus!  Our worship will be held at 10:30 a.m. and communion will be celebrated.

One evening an old Cree told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people.  He said, “My son, the battle is between two wolves inside us all.”

“One is evil – it is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.

“The other is good – it is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith.”

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf wins?”

The old Cree simply replied, “The one you feed.”
